The US car market is one of the major sources for car importation into the African continent as many countries rely on this market. Used cars, new ones, salvage and parts. The choice of the US car market stems from the size, quality relative to price and flexibility in shipping. This is advantageous to those buying for their personal use or buying to sell.

For those in the US, buying a car is straightforward. You can either buy from a dealership or top auction sites like Carfax, or classified ad sites. Some cars come with a title if you’re buying from a dealership. But if it does not have a title, you will have to file for one, the dealership may also do this on your behalf, title comes out after a couple of days. The title is a legal document specifying the owner and condition of the vehicle.

If you’re outside of the US, say in Africa, and you will like to purchase vehicles in the US, it is also straightforward. You have three options; First option is to do it with a proxy in the US, someone to make the purchase on your behalf, from say a dealership or from an auction or ad site. The proxy inspects car and handles the purchase. This is logically the best way. Option 2 is buying the car yourself, in this instance, you will most certainly not be physically inspecting the car, this is very common for salvage cars sold at auction. People just hop on auction sites and buy them, hoping to get the best out of the car when it’s shipped.

Shipping.

You will need to contact a reliable shipping company. Shipping to Africa from ports in the US starts from around $500, for roll in roll out method (car is driven unto the ship and out at arrival). Different shipping methods attract different fees. The shipping company will often send the bill of laden to the destination port before arrival, and another copy to the client upon arrival.
